Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin
The new building of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin at ul. Małopolska 48, erected according to a design by the Barcelona studio Estudio Barozzi Veiga (Fabrizio Barozzi, Alberto Veiga), selected from among 44 entries in a 2007 competition. Construction of the new building began in April 2011, and the works were completed in spring 2014; the inauguration of the institution's activity in its new premises took place on 5 September 2014. The cost of the investment was given as PLN 118,918,000, of which PLN 45 million was a contribution from the Regional Operational Programme of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship, with the remainder coming from the city budget. The owner of the facility is the City of Szczecin. The building houses a symphony hall with 953 seats and a chamber hall for 192 spectators. The general contractor was Warbud S.A.

Significance
The Szczecin Philharmonic was the first building from Poland to receive the European Union Mies van der Rohe Award for contemporary architecture – the result of the competition was announced on 8 May 2015. Commissioned in 2014, the facility gained worldwide renown and became a recognizable architectural icon of the city, hosting musical events over the following decade of activity. The project combined financing from the Regional Operational Programme of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship with the city budget.
