Internet for Masovia (Regional Broadband Network of the Masovian Voivodeship)
Internet for Masovia (IDM) is a project to build a regional backbone-and-distribution fibre-optic network, carried out by the Self-Government of the Masovian Voivodeship, aimed at eliminating the so-called 'white spots' and providing access to fast internet for residents and public institutions across the voivodeship. The contract engineer was Agencja Rozwoju Mazowsza S.A. (Masovia Development Agency). On 3 October 2013 a contract for the network's construction was signed with a Polish-Korean consortium led by the Korean company KT Corporation, with members including Daewoo International Corporation, Asseco Poland, Warszawskie Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Telekomunikacyjnych, BIATEL Telekomunikacja, BIATEL BIT and KBTO. The value of the whole undertaking came to about PLN 458 million gross, with an EU grant of over PLN 340 million from the Regional Operational Programme of the Masovian Voivodeship 2007–2013. In total, more than 3,600 km of fibre-optic routes were built (3,680 km under the contract), together with 42 backbone nodes, 4 technical nodes and 308 distribution nodes. The official opening of the Network Management Centre took place on 21 September 2015 in Warsaw; the network is now in its operating phase. The project was described as the largest undertaking of its kind then being carried out in Europe.

Significance
The Internet for Masovia project was, at the time, the largest undertaking of its kind in Europe to build a regional broadband network, and a key element in tackling digital exclusion in the Masovian Voivodeship, where a significant number of municipalities lay in areas with limited internet access. The fibre-optic infrastructure built (more than 3,600 km of routes, 42 backbone nodes and 308 distribution nodes) created an open wholesale network enabling telecommunications operators to provide broadband services to the region's residents and public institutions.
