A municipal waste thermal treatment plant in Bydgoszcz, built in an industrial district in the east of the city and operated by the municipal company ProNatura. The plant was one of the first large waste incineration plants in Poland co-financed with European Union funds under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment from the Cohesion Fund. Construction started on 30 September 2013, the official handover took place on 26 November 2015, and on 29 February 2016 the company ProNatura took over the plant for operation. The plant, with a nominal capacity of approximately 180,000 tonnes (Mg) of waste per year, incinerates the residual fraction of municipal waste, producing electricity and district heat. The total project cost under the EU co-financing agreement was approximately PLN 522.6 million, of which approximately PLN 255.8 million was EU support.

Significance

The plant completes Bydgoszcz's waste management system, providing thermal treatment of the non-recyclable fraction of municipal waste instead of landfilling it, and produces electricity and district heat for the city. It was one of the first large waste incineration plants in Poland built with EU co-financing (Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment, Cohesion Fund) and processes approximately 180,000 tonnes of waste per year.
