New Seat of the Polish Army Museum at the Warsaw Citadel

The new, permanent seat of the Polish Army Museum, being built on the grounds of the Warsaw Citadel, designed by the Warsaw studio WXCA. Construction of the building (the south building) started in March 2018, and on 13 August 2023 the first completed part of the new seat was ceremonially opened, giving the Polish Army Museum, an institution in existence since 1920, its own permanent building for the first time. The general contractor for the building was a consortium of IDS-BUD S.A. and MAR-BUD Budownictwo, whose tender offer came to just under PLN 256 million (the contracting authority had earmarked up to PLN 320 million gross for the task); construction was financed from a grant from the Ministry of National Defence, and the cost of the permanent exhibition was estimated separately at approximately PLN 45 million. The new seat of the Polish Army Museum, together with the neighbouring building of the Museum of Polish History, forms the Citadel of Museums complex being built at the Citadel; the total construction cost of both museums was put at PLN 821 million. According to findings by the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), the multi-year programme for 2009-2018 allocated PLN 485.5 million for the construction of the Polish Army Museum, and the completion deadline was pushed back several times (originally 2012, then 2021). The Polish Army Museum complex is ultimately to be complemented by a north building, to be carried out in a second stage.
