A lignite-fired power unit with a capacity of 464 MW (the rated capacity is also given as 474 MW), built at the Pątnów Power Plant near Konin as Pątnów II. It was the first unit with supercritical parameters in the national power system. The investment was carried out by the special-purpose vehicle Elektrownia Pątnów II Sp. z o.o., a 100 per cent subsidiary of Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin (ZE PAK) SA, set up to raise long-term credit financing; the group's strategic investor was Elektrim SA. Construction ran from 3 January 2002, and the unit was officially commissioned and handed over for operation on 29 February 2008. The boiler was supplied by the Alstom-Rafako consortium, and the turbine by Alstom Power. Construction cost was estimated at around EUR 550 million (around PLN 1.9 billion at the 2008 NBP average exchange rate). Planned annual gross electricity output was 3.3 TWh, with an efficiency of 44.0 per cent gross and 41.0 per cent net. At the end of 2020, the company Elektrownia Pątnów II was liquidated, and its assets were transferred directly to ZE PAK; the unit became Unit No. 9 of the Pątnów Power Plant.

Significance

Pątnów II was the first unit with supercritical parameters in the national power system and one of the first large coal-fired units commissioned after years of stagnant investment in the Polish power sector. The 464 MW unit (474 MW rated capacity), fired with local lignite, substantially strengthened system stability in the central and northern part of the country and set the efficiency standard (44.0 per cent gross) for the supercritical units subsequently built in Poland (Łagisza, Bełchatów).

Every fact on this card comes from the sources below. Next to each source – which fields it supports.

Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.

A “wiki” mark means the value stands on Wikipedia alone. Our count of independent sources treats it as zero, so read such a place as less firmly documented than the rest of the card – that applies to an outcome row, a figure, a date and a status alike.
