On 28 April 2016 the Armament Inspectorate signed a contract with a consortium of Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. and Rosomak S.A. for the delivery of components for eight Rak company fire modules (KMO): 64 M120K 120 mm self-propelled mortars on a wheeled chassis and 32 AWD artillery command vehicles on a wheeled chassis. The gross contract value was PLN 968,319,188 (approx. PLN 968.3 million). Delivery of the ordered equipment was planned for 2017-2019 (components for two modules in 2017, and three complete sets each in 2018 and 2019). On 15 October 2019 the last, eighth company fire module left Huta Stalowa Wola, with which HSW completed the contract of 28 April 2016; the equipment was issued, among others, to the 12th Mechanised Brigade in Szczecin. The M120K mortar is built on the domestically produced Rosomak wheeled chassis, and the Rak modules are a product of the Polish defence industry (Huta Stalowa Wola / PGZ Group).

Significance

The contract of 28 April 2016 launched serial production and the introduction into the Polish Armed Forces of the 120 mm M120 Rak self-propelled mortar, a new class of fire support weapon built on the domestically produced Rosomak wheeled chassis. Delivery of eight company fire modules (a total of 64 M120K mortars and 32 AWD artillery command vehicles) in 2017-2019 built the first core of Rak sub-units in Polish mechanised brigades and consolidated the artillery production capability of the domestic defence industry centred on Huta Stalowa Wola.
