A1 motorway Częstochowa – Pyrzowice

Construction of the Silesian section of the A1 motorway from the Pyrzowice interchange (near Katowice Airport) to the Częstochowa Północ interchange, together with the Częstochowa motorway bypass, with a total length of approximately 57.70 km. The project was carried out by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), which divided it into four sections (F: Częstochowa Północ – Blachownia, G: Blachownia – Zawodzie/Częstochowa Południe, H: Częstochowa Południe – Woźniki, I: Woźniki – Pyrzowice) under a "design and build" system. Contracts with contractors were signed in 2015-2016 (including the contract for section F with the Salini company on 12 October 2015). On 2 August 2019 a 33-kilometre stretch from the Pyrzowice interchange to the Częstochowa Blachownia interchange was opened to traffic (sections G, H, I), and on 23 December 2019 the last, approximately 20-kilometre section F (Częstochowa Północ – Blachownia) was opened, closing the route along its full length. The investment was worth approximately PLN 3.0 billion, of which approximately PLN 1.35 billion was co-financing from the EU Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020.
