Cadbury / Cadbury Wedel (Mondelēz) Chocolate and Chewing Gum Factory in Skarbimierz

The Cadbury plant in Skarbimierz (Skarbimierz municipality, Brzeg County, Opole Voivodeship) is a complex of two factories belonging to the British group Cadbury (the company Cadbury Wedel; following the takeover by Kraft Foods in 2010 and the spin-off in 2012, operating within the structures of Mondelēz International). The investment began in 2006 with the construction of a chewing gum factory; regular production started there in autumn 2008, and its official opening took place on 10 February 2009. It created 300 new jobs, and the plant produces for export the Trident, Stimorol, V6 and Hollywood brands. The group put the cost of building the gum factory at nearly EUR 100 million. Next to it, a chocolate products factory was built, whose production was to start in the first quarter of 2010 and which, as later sources confirm, was completed in 2010 and remains in operation today. The value of the investment was put at approximately EUR 200 million; according to “Rzeczpospolita”, this was the value of an investment plan being carried out in Poland for almost two years, of which the construction of the factory in Skarbimierz was the most expensive stage (sources differ as to whether the EUR 200 million figure relates to the chocolate factory alone or to the wider programme). The Skarbimierz plant was planned as one of the group's five largest plants in Europe. Cadbury received a grant of nearly PLN 14 million from the state budget to build the chocolate factory.
