The Diesel Hydrodesulphurisation Unit HON VII is a desulphurisation unit at the PKN Orlen production plant in Płock, commissioned on 2 November 2010 after a construction process of about two years. The investment cost around PLN 500 million. The unit has a throughput capacity of 260 tonnes per hour, or 2.2 million tonnes of fuel a year, and it increased the Płock refinery's diesel production capacity by around 1 million tonnes a year. The unit comprises a desulphurisation section and an amine section for removing hydrogen sulphide and ammonia; after it was commissioned, the older HON II and HON III units were taken out of service. The investment's contractors included Technip Italy and Technip Polska, Albemarle Catalyst, Orlen Projekt, Mostostal Płock and Pol-Aqua.

Significance

The commissioning of the HON VII unit increased the PKN Orlen Płock refinery's production capacity for high-quality diesel by around 1 million tonnes a year, helping to meet domestic fuel demand and to produce diesel meeting tightened quality standards. The unit, with a throughput capacity of 260 tonnes per hour, replaced the worn-out, older desulphurisation units (HON II and HON III).
