Isuzu Motors Polska Sp. z o.o. (ISPOL) is a diesel engine plant for passenger cars in Tychy, and was the first Japanese investment of such a large scale in Poland. The company was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Isuzu Motors in January 1997. Construction of the plant began in 1997 and was completed in 1998, with engine production starting on 14 June 1999; the plant's official opening took place on 17 September 1999, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Leszek Balcerowicz and representatives of General Motors. The total investment was estimated at about USD 193 million (foreign sources give around USD 200 million). The plant, located in the Tychy special economic zone, was intended to reach production of 100,000 engines in its first year and full capacity of 300,000 units a year from 2003, supplying modern diesel engines, compliant with European environmental standards, for Opel cars (including the Astra). The one-millionth engine was produced in 2004, and the two-millionth in 2009. Initially wholly controlled by Isuzu, the company later came under the control of General Motors (majority stake around 2002), and subsequently became part of the PSA/Stellantis group.

Significance

The Isuzu Motors Polska plant in Tychy was the first Japanese industrial investment of such a large scale in Poland and one of the largest foreign automotive projects of the late 1990s. It became a key production centre for GM/Isuzu group diesel engines in Europe, supplying power units for Opel cars. The plant, still operating today (now within the Stellantis group), went on to produce many millions of engines in subsequent years, reinforcing the position of Tychy and the Śląskie Voivodeship as an important centre of the automotive industry.

Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.
