The Łódź Regional Tramway (ŁTR) was a project, carried out in 2007–2008, to modernise the north-south fast-tram trunk line in Łódź, originally intended to connect Łódź with Zgierz (to the north) and with Ksawerów and Pabianice (to the south). Stage I was carried out from 7 July 2007 and finished on 30 June 2008, with the route opened for use on 1 July 2008. What was completed at that time was the section within the administrative boundaries of Łódź, from the Helenówek depot to Chocianowice (around 28.9 km), including new stops, track, traction substations and a traffic-control system, together with the purchase of new rolling stock. Stage I (the Łódź section) cost PLN 281 million, including a PLN 103 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund; the total planned cost of the whole project (including the sections to Zgierz and Pabianice) was PLN 442,018,200. The beneficiary and operator was MPK-Łódź, with support from the City of Łódź. The Łódź Regional Tramway was carried out only between Helenówek and Chocianowice. The new trams never ran to Pabianice, and on 2 November 2009 the town of Zgierz withdrew from building its section because the grant on offer was too low; the renovated route to Zgierz did not open until December 2021.

Timeline
Significance
The Łódź Regional Tramway was the largest tram project in the Łódź metropolitan area and one of the first ventures in Poland to build a fast tram line with a regional character, co-financed from European Union funds. It modernised Łódź's north-south tram trunk line (Helenówek–Chocianowice), including the track, stops, substations and new rolling stock. The project's intended regional scope was not fully realised, however: the connection to Pabianice was never built, and the section to Zgierz was not opened until December 2021, as a separate undertaking.

Every fact on this card comes from the sources below. Next to each source – which fields it supports.
Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.

StatusNowa ekipa postawiła na modernizację ciągu transportowego północ-południe, czego konsekwencją był realizowany w latach 2007–2008 Łódzki Tramwaj Regionalny. W założeniach miał połączyć Zgierz, Łódź i Pabianice, w praktyce środki unijne na remonty torów i zakup dziesięciu nowoczesnych tramwajów trafiły jedynie do Łodzi.
