A barrage on the Oder located in the village of Rzeczyca in the Środa Śląska municipality (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), at around the 300th kilometre of the waterway. Construction began in 1997, immediately after the flood of the millennium, and completion of the investment was originally planned for 2009. The main impounding structure is a three-span flap weir with a clear span of 75 m; the structure is supplemented by a hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 9 MW, fitted with three Kaplan turbines. The first lock passage took place on 4 June 2018, when the Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, Marek Gróbarczyk, officially put the barrage into service, after more than twenty years of construction. Investment costs rose from an initial planned PLN 350 million to more than PLN 1.1 billion. The investor was the Regional Water Management Authority in Wrocław (from 2018 part of the State Water Holding Polish Waters).
How it went
Assessment: settled, as of 4 Jun 2018. This is our reading, not a verdict, and we show it only where a quote from a source listed below stands behind it. Of the four, one has an assessment with no confirmed quote. How to read this section
A “wiki” mark means the value stands on Wikipedia alone. Our count of independent sources treats it as zero, so read such a place as less firmly documented than the rest of the card – that applies to an outcome row, a figure, a date and a status alike.

Significance
The purpose of the Malczyce barrage is to restore the original groundwater level, halt erosion processes in the Oder riverbed below the existing barrage at Brzeg Dolny, and restore the navigation route. The investment became an example of a protracted construction process in Polish water management: works carried on since 1997 were not completed until 2018, and the cost repeatedly exceeded the original assumptions (rising from PLN 350 million to more than PLN 1.1 billion).

Every fact on this card comes from the sources below. Next to each source – which fields it supports.
Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.
