The PX/PTA petrochemical complex of Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN S.A. was the first integrated system in Poland for producing paraxylene (PX) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA). The paraxylene unit was built on the site of the PKN ORLEN production plant in Płock (Masovian Voivodeship), while the terephthalic acid plant was built at Krzywa Góra in Włocławek (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship), next to the Anwil nitrogen plant (Zakłady Azotowe Anwil). Construction of the PTA plant began on 23 July 2008 (marked by a foundation-stone-laying ceremony); the original schedule assumed PTA production would start in the second half of 2010. The complex was brought into use and formally opened in June 2011, after roughly three years of construction. The PX unit has a production capacity of 400,000 tonnes of paraxylene per year, and the PTA unit 600,000 tonnes of terephthalic acid per year. The value of the investment was put at over EUR 1 billion (at the planning stage in 2008 the PTA plant was valued at around PLN 3.75 billion). The general contractor for the PTA plant was Polimex-Mostostal, and the plant uses Mitsubishi Chemical technology.

Significance

The PX/PTA complex was the first integrated system in Poland for producing paraxylene and purified terephthalic acid, a feedstock for the polyester fibre and PET plastics industry. According to PKN ORLEN, bringing into operation the 600,000-tonne-per-year PTA unit accounted for around 20% of European production of this feedstock, and the plant was described as the second-largest and one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The investment was a key element in the expansion of the Płock-based group's petrochemical operations, and made it possible to use the paraxylene produced in Płock as feedstock for terephthalic acid production in Włocławek.

Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.
