S5 Expressway Poznań – Wrocław

The S5 expressway on the Poznań – Wrocław section is a route connecting the Poznań and Wrocław agglomerations, managed and delivered by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The main Greater Poland project 'Construction of the S5 expressway Poznań – Wrocław, section Poznań – Kaczkowo' covered approximately 79.15 km, with a total value of PLN 2,353,317,813.76 and EU co-financing of approximately PLN 1.22 billion from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014–2020 (Cohesion Fund). The co-financing agreement was signed on 17 March 2017, and the original contractual completion date was set for 31 December 2021. The route was opened to traffic in stages: on 14 December 2019, the last 50.5 km of the S5 in Greater Poland was opened to drivers (the Poznań – Wronczyn, Wronczyn – Kościan Południe and Kościan Południe – Radomicko sections), completing the Poznań – Wrocław S5 route. Earlier, in November 2017, the Lower Silesian section Korzeńsko – Wrocław was opened to traffic. The entire S5 expressway in the Greater Poland voivodeship is over 160 km long, with an investment value of approximately PLN 5.5 billion.
