The Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP) plant in Wałbrzych is a greenfield investment by the Japanese Toyota group, and is Toyota's largest components-production centre outside Japan. TMMP was established in 1999, and production started on 10 April 2002, initially of 5-speed manual gearboxes, and subsequently also of petrol engines. The value of the initial investment in the Wałbrzych plant was approximately EUR 540 million. The plant occupies an area of approximately 500,000 m² (built-up area approximately 100,000 m²), and its production capacity covers 720,000 gearboxes and 360,000 engines a year. The gearboxes and engines produced in Wałbrzych go into Toyota cars assembled at the group's European plants.

Significance

The Toyota plant in Wałbrzych was one of the largest Japanese greenfield investments in Lower Silesia and became Toyota's largest components-production centre outside Japan. Located in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone (Invest-Park), the plant started producing gearboxes in 2002 and subsequently also engines, supplying components to Toyota cars assembled at the group's plants in Europe. The investment employed approximately 2,000 people and was one of the pillars of automotive-industry development in the Wałbrzych region.
