Central Trunk Line (Line 4) upgrade to 200 km/h for Pendolino (Grodzisk Maz. – Zawiercie)
Upgrading the Central Trunk Line (railway line no. 4, Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie, approximately 224 km) to a train speed of 200 km/h. This was the first operation of conventional rail at this speed in Poland. The infrastructure manager is PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. In 2010–2014 the Włoszczowa Płn. – Olszamowice section (excluding both stations) was upgraded: the overhead traction network was replaced, engineering structures were refurbished, and the trackbed was reinforced at selected points. On 14 December 2014 ED250 Pendolino trains began scheduled running at 200 km/h on the Zawiercie – Olszamowice section; Poland became the first of the states that joined the European Union in 2004 to introduce a train speed above 160 km/h. On 10 December 2017 the 200 km/h speed was also introduced on the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Idzikowice section (80 km). This record covers the 200 km/h phase of the project, completed by 2017. The later upgrade of the Central Trunk Line to a speed of 230–250 km/h (including ERTMS/ETCS level 2 on the Korytów – Zawiercie section, and works financed from the National Recovery Plan worth around PLN 1.8 billion) is a separate programme carried out after 2020 and is not covered by this record.

Significance
The upgrade of the Central Trunk Line to 200 km/h made Line 4 the first railway route in Poland on which passenger trains run at 200 km/h, and made Poland the first state admitted to the European Union in 2004 to cross the 160 km/h threshold in passenger traffic. It enabled the introduction of the flagship Express InterCity Premium services with ED250 Pendolino trains and shortened journey times on the Warsaw – Katowice/Krakow axis. The 200 km/h phase became the foundation for the later programme, carried out after 2020, to upgrade the trunk line to a speed of 230–250 km/h.

Every fact on this card comes from the sources below. Next to each source – which fields it supports.
Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.
