Modernisation of the international railway line E30/C-E30 on the Kraków (Podłęże) – Rzeszów section (nearly 140 km of track), carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. as stage III in two phases: Phase I under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013 (project POIiŚ 7.1-30) and Phase II under POIiŚ 2014-2020 (project POIiŚ 5.1-7). The indicative total cost of the whole project was estimated (in 2012) at PLN 4,672.08 million, of which the estimated amount of EU co-financing was to be PLN 2,181.02 million; most of the financing consisted of EU funds under POIiŚ. The scope of the investment included the modernisation of nearly 140 km of track together with a new type of overhead traction network, computerised railway traffic control equipment and telecommunications, and the rebuilding and construction of 139 viaducts, bridges and flyovers, with the line brought up to a speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight. The works were originally planned to be completed by the end of 2014; the main works on the Podłęże – Rzeszów section were completed in December 2017, and from 10 December 2017 the fastest passenger trains ran on this route at speeds of up to 160 km/h. Phase II (POIiŚ 5.1-7, value PLN 711.9 million) covered supplementary works carried out in subsequent years. Rynek Kolejowy described the undertaking as one of PKP PLK's largest investments in the south of the country.

Significance

The modernisation raised the maximum speed on the Kraków – Rzeszów route to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight, and cut journey times along this route. The rebuilding of 139 viaducts, bridges and flyovers and the construction of grade-separated crossings improved traffic safety. The line forms part of the international E30/C-E30 rail corridor in the TEN-T network, linking Poland with Western Europe and, via Rzeszów and Medyka, with the country's eastern border, and was one of PKP PLK's largest rail investments carried out in southern Poland.

Independence is counted the same way the gate that admits a record counts it: subdomains and titles from one publisher are a single voice, Wikipedia is zero. That is why the number is lower than the number of links. Three is the minimum.
