Purchase of up to 213 trams for Tramwaje Warszawskie (Hyundai Rotem contract, 2019)
On 14 September 2018, Tramwaje Warszawskie sp. z o.o. announced a tender procedure for the purchase of new low-floor trams with an estimated value of approximately PLN 1.9 billion, covering a total of up to 213 vehicles: 123 under the base order and 90 under an option right. The contract with Hyundai Rotem Company, which submitted the most favourable offer, was signed in June 2019; the value of the contract was PLN 1,825 million net, and it was the largest tram contract signed in Poland to date. The rolling-stock purchase received partial co-financing from European Union funds (Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme) in the amount of approximately PLN 285 million. The vehicles under the base order were to be delivered by the end of 2022, and those under the option by the end of 2023. All 123 trams of the base order were delivered: physical deliveries were completed in October 2023, and the formal acceptance of all vehicles took place on 25 January 2024. Tramwaje Warszawskie withdrew from exercising the option right for an additional 90 trams, citing a lack of funds and the manufacturer's expectations regarding a price adjustment (rising costs linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine). Tramwaje Warszawskie is owned by the City of Warsaw.

Significance
The contract for up to 213 trams, worth PLN 1,825 million net, was the largest tram rolling-stock order in Poland's history and one of the largest in Europe. The delivery of 123 modern, low-floor, energy-efficient Hyundai Rotem trams significantly expanded and renewed the rolling stock of the capital's tram network. After deliveries were completed in 2023, Warsaw had the largest fleet of low-floor trams in Poland. Part of the purchase was co-financed by the European Union from the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme.
