S17 Expressway Warsaw (Zakręt) – Kurów Zachód (part of the Warsaw – Lublin route)
Construction of a new approximately 100-kilometre section of the S17 expressway on the Warsaw – Lublin route, between the Zakręt interchange (Warszawa Wschód) and the Kurów Zachód interchange, carried out by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) under a design-and-build formula. The first design-and-build contracts for individual sections were signed in October 2015 (including the 13.2 km Skrudki – Kurów Zachód section with Mota-Engil Central Europe for approximately PLN 270.8 million), and the Zakręt – Lubelska section was contracted on 22 November 2017. The total construction cost of the route between the Zakręt and Kurów Zachód interchanges was nearly PLN 4 billion, of which nearly PLN 2.1 billion was EU co-financing from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment. The main part of the route (approximately 71 km from the Kołbiel bypass to Kurów Zachód) was brought into use in 2019: on 19 June 2019 the Skrudki – Kurów Zachód section, on 4 July 2019 the Garwolin – Ryki Północ section, on 6 September 2019 the section to the Skrudki interchange, and on 23 December 2019 the Kołbiel – Garwolin section. The Warsaw (Lubelska) – Kołbiel section was opened in July 2020, closing the expressway link from Warsaw to Lublin, while the final 2.5-kilometre Zakręt – Lubelska interchange (part of the Eastern Bypass of Warsaw, Wschodnia Obwodnica Warszawy) was opened to traffic in December 2022 and completed in December 2023. The figure of nearly PLN 4 billion relates to the Zakręt – Kurów Zachód section and does not include the previously built Kurów – Lublin fragment, brought into use in 2013–2014.

Significance
The section provided a grade-separated expressway route from Warsaw to Lublin, replacing the congested national road No. 17. It is a key fragment of the S17 Warsaw – Lublin – Zamość – Hrebenne corridor, part of the European route E372 leading towards the border crossing with Ukraine, and one of the largest road undertakings in eastern Poland financed from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
